Preliminary exercise

This is our preliminary video. There were major issues that we came across after filming, such as the lack of sound during the first few clips. Also, the quality of filming and editing was not as good as we're capable of. From this, you can tell the advances we made to our final piece of coursework.

Evaluation Question 1, Part III

Challenging forms and conventions of real media productions.

In our film, we challenged conventions of real media in our music. The choice of music wasn't conventional of Crime Thrillers. It was more intense for an intro of this genre than usual. Also, the camera angles were more static and minimal.

Focus group feedback

In todays lesson, we played our edit to the class in order to gain feedback on what we could do to improve it. Although the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, we received criticism on our location. Because we are only an A level media class, we couldn't use a proper location, so we filmed out robbery scene in the school cafeteria. Most of the class weren't bothered by this, but our teacher suggested we re-filmed in a real location. However, after receiving todays feedback, we have decided the footage is good enough and doesn't need a re-shoot. Our teacher agreed with this.

Experimenting

Today, we experimented and practiced our talking scene in the T.V Studio. Unfortunately, we deleted the practice shots, so can't upload them. It was suggested that we experiment with humour in our film, since we take inspiration from Pulp Fiction. It is something we are considering and experimenting with.

Title Sequence Ideas

An idea I have for the title sequence of our film, is to have white text fade in and out across the bottom of the screen as the cross-cut takes place. A similar idea is the intro to reservoir dogs, which has a golden font fade in and out at the bottom, with footage of characters in the background.

Ours will be similar to this, but white instead of gold, and will run through all our intro.

Filming

Today, we filmed our bank robbery scenes, and the scenes where the two characters pickup the weapons. We introduced two new characters, the 'dealer', the man who drops off the weapons, and the cashier, a bank employee. The scenes we filmed today will run in-between the discussion in the form of a cross-cut. We still need to film our 'robbery planning' clips in the T.V studio, which we hope to get done by Wednesday. Alfie has also transcoded the footage off the camera, so that it will run more smoothly with editing software, such as Final Cut Pro. We're pleased with our footage today, which is better than we thought it would be. My role was as the 'dealer' character, and as the main camera operator.

Animatic

Today, I edited 9 pictures we took for our film. Using Adobe Photoshop, I made the pictures look somewhat like sketches. I then sent the pictures to Alfie to complete the animatic.
